12 volt Appliances for Camping
Let’s face it, most times when you are camping without mains power you have to forgo some of the little luxuries of home like that freshly brewed coffee or a toasted cheese melt. Well not any more. An innovative company has produced a line of high power 12 volt PowerHunt® appliances that includes a microwave, sandwich maker, griddle – to name just three. So how is this possible?
PNP System Inc. is the company behind the Power Hunt products, a range of the highest performance, quality 12-volt DC products available anywhere. They also have the only true portable AC/DC microwave oven in the world. Called the WaveBox®, this handy portable 600 watt microwave can be used in the car or boat without an inverter, and then can also be plugged directly into mains power in your motel room for example.
The PowerHunt® range of products work so well by utilizing a unique and patented power strip system that connects directly to a 12 volt vehicle or caravan battery to deliver up to 70 amps of unbridled safe and efficient power.

All of the appliance range connect to the power strip by a unique plug design that ensures a safe and capable connection to the power strip. It’s design also makes it impossible to connect appliances incorrectly.
So what kind of appliance power draw are we talking about? Let’s take the Griddle for example. Nothing like a full cooked breakfast without having to light fires and risk having to deal with dangerous fuels for generators and the high voltage output from inverters. Taking the power directly from your battery ensures safety and efficiency – convenience too! So what about that full breakfast on the griddle? well it should take around 8 minutes using the 45 Amp heating elements of the Griddle.
Now if you are worried about power drain on your battery, let’s put something into perspective. The number of ampere hours required to deliver the griddle breakfast is going to be around 45 x 8/60 which equals 6 Ampere hours. If you run 3 caravan internal lights for say 3 hours per day, you will generally be using up to 8 or 9 Ampere hours. And if you have about 100 Ampere hours from your battery at your disposal, then 6 is not a lot; and if you have solar battery charging or you travel around a lot (vehicle charging), you will recover that in just a couple of hours.
If however you don’t want to use your vehicle or caravan battery, that has been thought of too. One of the products is a Mobile Battery Pack that gives you the freedom to go anywhere you want and have up to 35 minutes of cooking time available before recharging. Watch the video below for more.
The Power Hunt product range certainly deserves a second look, especially if you are into camping off the beaten track. You can find more information here.
