If you are connecting directly to the battery then your car computer should be surge and transient protected anyway.  It would help to have a quick chat with an auto electrician if you are in doubt. However, I would always recommend that you fuse the positive line at the battery end of the cables going to the anderson connector - usual practice is an inline 100 Amp fuse. I also recommend using dust caps when the connectors are not in use to avoid accidental short circuits.
