Protecting your jockeywheel mechanism
Sometimes it’s the simple things that can be the most effective. If you have a caravan or camper trailer you know that your jockey wheel is an important piece of gear, and it is just as important to protect it so that it gives faultless service for a long long time. I picked up this simple little trick from an old-timer on the road. At first I didn’t think much about it but after a couple of long dusty, and then wet trips I changed my mind. This simple idea will help minimise dirt, dust and moisture ingress into the jockey wheel mechanism. Of course, a quick spray of lithium grease could help too!
Cut the bottom of an ordinary plastic soft drink bottle or use some other light plastic container that is a snug fit over the top of your jockey wheel. Measure the width of the winding handle and and then then cut a slot up one side. Make the slot long enough to allow the container to sit down a reasonable distance over the handle.

Place the upturned bottle or container over the jockey wheel winding mechanism as you set up. Keep it in your boot for easy access – no weight at all.
