Twin Shores Camping Area, Prince Edward Island
I lived on Prince Erdward Island for seven years or so and thoroughly enjoyed my time there – summer and winter. In summer, you too can enjoy a family camping holiday you won’t forget at one of the most scenic places you will see – Prince Edward Island and the Twin Shores Camping Area. This amazing campground has everything you will need - and more, to make your stay a good one. Twin Shores is over a 100 acres of north shore heaven just 45 miles from New Brunswick via 8 miles of the magnificent Confederation Bridge. The bridge is an engineering wonder built in the 1990s, and opened in May 1997 to open up this marvellous tourist spot to the masses.
Twin Shores has 600+ sites for anything from tent to motorhome. Take your pick of sites without power, with power and water, or the full package including sewer. Sites vary from open to hedge surrounded to woodland and beachfront. The park sits between two beaches on Profits Point north of Summerside and Kensington. The northern beach is white sand and the southern beach red sand.
Neither children nor adults will ever be lost for something to do. There is a softball diamond, tennis court, horseshoes pitch, badminton, basketball, cycling, fishing – the list goes on. Twin Shores also boasts a general store, gymnasium, games room, childrens playground, and even a movie theatre! There’s an ice cream and pizza parlour, and nearby on a local warf a small seafood restaurant.
Now although this is rated by many as THE best campground they have ever been to (it is the Woodalls highest rated campground in Atlantic Canada), you have to remember that it is a family oriented camping ground. If you are looking for somewhere secluded and quiet, at one with nature, then maybe this place is not your first choice – but it’s worth a peek!
If the campground doesn’t keep you occupied throughout your stay there is so much more to do on PEI – and don’t forget that there are two lobster seasons, one in spring and one in fall and you have to get at least one lobster feed in during your stay. When I took my wife there in 2006 for a relatively short stay she wanted lobster every night for dinner!
OK. If you are travelling and camping on the Canadian east coast you have to give this a go. Just head for the Confederation bridge in New Brunswick and drive north. You won’t regret it. More information can be obtained from:

If you have something to say, this is the place ...

Couldn’t agree with Terence more. Twin Shores is not only the best campground on P.E.I. but I have traveled extensively in Canada and the US and would rate this park second to NONE! Show me a campground with 2 different private beaches anywhere! Forget campground, show me a hotel or resort where you can choose and pick what type of beach you want to visit for the day at the same place!
20 yrs ago while out for a Sunday drive, a friend and I came across a road leading down to what we knew was water at the end of the road. Being curious we saw the most beautiful beach that stretched for miles. We also noticed a campground next to the lane we traveled called TWIN SHORES. We drove in and around the lanes and saw a few trailers in really secluded camping areas and I thought to myself what a beautiful spot to pitch a tent and only a short distance to walk to this beautiful beach.
After telling many people about it for years; yesterday I had the opportunity to go for an afternoon drive with my sister-in law. She asked where I would like to go. I said I would love to take a drive to a place I haven’t seen for years but never forgot it. Twin Shores In Darnley. We got there and I saw the sign and I said this can’t be it, that’s not how I remember it.
We drove in and asked the gentleman at the gate if he would mind if we took a drive in to look around. Well I couldn’t believe the transformation in front of me, it was amazing the changes that have taken place to ensure families explore endless possibilities as to what they could do here. I will certainly tell people if they are thinking about camping on PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, don’t overlook TWIN SHORES CAMPGROUND as you will never regret staying at such a wonderful spot. I hope to return to see it again and I just hope it doesn’t take another 20 years.

Thanks for your report Edith. PEI has something about it doesn’t it?

If anybody is going to visit you at the campground, be advised that Twin Shores actually charges them to enter the grounds – it’s a money grab. They used to require a deposit which you would receive on leaving before midnight. Now, they actually keep half the deposit if you visit for more than one hour.
Thanks for sharing this Sarah. I’m not too impressed with this but maybe they have had some issues in the past with ‘visitors’ overstaying their welcome. One example could be people visiting to take advantage of the facilities the camp ground offers. Easy to do that and then just depart without paying anything for the privilege.
I operate a campground in Ontario and we do not allow visitors entry into our park…period. One of the reasons is stated in the reply by Terence. Visitors are a liability and visitors take away from the facilities and recreation of paying customers. If you want to visit friends without having to pay suggest they camp in a walmart parking lot and you can have free use of their recreational amenities and camping facilities all while saving money from “money grabbing” small business owners.
Hello, this is really a actually fascinating web weblog and ive loved reading several of the content and posts contained upon the website, sustain the good work and hope to examine a lot additional exciting posts in the time to arrive.
I have never visited this campground, however planning to do it this summer (2011). I am not a rich person but I totally agree with Edward, because in the past a number of times our reserved campsite was not ready to go, rather occupied by the stupid cheap ass and care less campers. Can you imagine? hours of driving you are at your spot and you see no one is there but the place is occupied by the camper's tent and stuff, so you have to go back to the entrance and report and in many cases we did not get the same spot. So a heavy penalty for the misuse could be the only way to get rid of those stupid campers and help those who want to have their good time.
I agree, if you want that kind of shity camping just go to the Walmart parking lot! Thanks Edward

Hello everyone.
This is such an informative blog, I am really enjoying the read.
I actually work at Twin Shores Camping Area and I must agree that it is Prince Edward Island's hidden treasure. There is so much for the kids to do that it allows you to actually enjoy and relax on vacation- which doesn't seem to happen much anymore.
We are actually so popular thanks to blogs like yours-spreading the word- that we take reservations year round!
So, please if you come to PEI please check us out, and stay a while!
2011 will be our 6th consecutive summer going to Twin Shores – we book for the next year when we check out and look forward to it all year! So much to do for young and older children, and the beach is absolutely beautiful!!! We have a family photo taken there every year. The sites in the older section closer to the beach are the best we've ever encountered- large, flat and grassy and surrounded by very tall trees. Can't recommend it highly enough and can't wait to return this summer for sundaes on Sunday and mussels on the beach! Oh and by the way, they also have live music many evenings, art lessons, an internet cafe, and the prices at the store are cheaper than the stores in town…
2011 will be our 7th summer at this beautiful park. Every year we reserve our site when we leave because beyond a doubt we will be back the following year. I LOVE the fact that I don't have to pack the kids, "stuff" and cooler in order to get to the beach for the day. Early, quiet morning walks with the dog on the beach is SO relaxing!!! The facilities are always kept clean and staff is always friendly. Lots for the kids to keep busy with and we (parents) can feel pretty secure that they are safe!!! Can't wait to get there next month…just wish it could be a longer stay!!!
We love Twin Shores it is a wonderful place for both kids and adults. Lots of things for kids to do – movies, hayrides, crafts, sports; and they have a great Internet cafe which opens at 6 am, so while you're out walking the dog you can drop in and grab a coffee. The grounds are clean and the staff are great.
